Michael and Keith: Brothers in Life, Partners in Craft
Michael and Keith’s story begins in the heart of West Texas, in the vibrant college town of Lubbock. Growing up together, they shared a love for adventure and a curiosity for craftsmanship that would only deepen as they grew older. Their bond as brothers transformed into a lasting friendship and, eventually, a thriving business partnership.
By trade, Michael and Keith are skilled electricians. However, their passion for mead has led them to explore an entirely new craft. Michael’s journey with mead began back in 2000 when he first encountered the drink’s complex flavors and ancient tradition. Convinced he could create something even better, Michael began experimenting with homebrewing alongside friends and soon found himself immersed in the art and science of mead-making. Over time, he built connections with local breweries and meaderies, gaining valuable experience in brewing techniques and professional equipment.
In 2015, Michael’s enthusiasm for mead finally rubbed off on Keith, and the brothers began brewing together. Their collaboration sparked a shared ambition, and in 2017, Wild West Mead Company became an official LLC. After securing the necessary ABC licenses, they were able to self-distribute and began contracting brewing and selling their unique meads to local venues, gradually cultivating a dedicated following.
In 2023, Wild West Mead Company reached a major milestone: the opening of their first tasting room and production space in Vista, CA. Here, they specialize in creating bold, innovative tea-infused meads alongside more traditional flavors. For Michael and Keith, mead-making is a continual journey of creativity and craftsmanship. Each new batch brings a challenge to push boundaries and surprise their customers with unique flavors, embodying the adventurous spirit of the Wild West.
